PORTSMOUTH, Ohio - NAIA Division II #9 Shawnee State played with a sense of urgency in drilling American Mideast Conference champion and #3 Cedarville, 76-54, in the regular season finale. The outcome ended the Lady Jackets' 18-game winning streak.
The Bears, who are unbeaten in 11 home games this season, needed a victory to secure the #2 seed in the upcoming AMC Tournament. They were also able to avenge an 82-71 setback to CU in the Callan Athletic Center on Feb. 11.
Shawnee State, 24-5 overall and 16-3 AMC, outscored the Lady Jackets 21-10 in the final 11:30 of the first half for a 38-27 advantage. Matters quickly disintegrated in the second period as the Bears blasted the spread out to as much as 72-42 at the 4:45 mark.
Cedarville got 11 points from Caitlyn Brooks while Kara Cayton chipped in 10. Aubrey Siemon pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds.
Cedarville, who had already wrapped up an NAIA automatic berth and the #1 seed in the AMC Tournament, was playing for the fifth time in 10 days. The Lady Jackets end the regular season 26-4 and 17-2 AMC. [STATS]
