DAYTON, Ohio - NCAA Division I Wright State was given all it could handle from Cedarville before coming away with a 74-68 victory in a women's basketball exhibition game played at the Ervin J. Nutter Center.

It was the final tune-up for the Lady Jackets' first official season in Division II as they made the short 20-minute trip to WSU. They were ready for the challenge against the Raiders, who are pre-season picked to finish third in the Horizon League.

CU started quickly by jumping to an 11-4 lead in the game's first three-plus minutes. The visitors held a 24-18 advantage at the 8:23 mark and the two teams were tied for the final time at 32-32 with 3:32 remaining in the first period.

A trio of three-pointers allowed Wright State to ease out to a 43-35 margin at the break. CU shot 56.5 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes which included a 5-for-9 accuracy from beyond the arc.

The Raiders used the free throw line to expand the bulge to 66-51 with 7:22 remaining, but the Lady Jackets weren't done. A tip-in by Becky Orchard and a three-ball by Raegan Ryan immediately hacked the deficit down to 10. It was 72-64 at the 2:37 mark, but CU ran out of time with the final margin resting at six.

“Even though we didn't win, we were very pleased with the result,” stated Head Coach Kirk Martin. “We went toe-to-toe with one of the top teams in the Horizon League and it is a motivational boost as we approach our season opener.”

Ryan paced four Lady Jackets in double figures with 16 points. Kayla Jenerette totaled 13 points and four assists; freshman Kayla Linkous made her debut with 13 points and eight rebounds; and Orchard chipped in 12 points.

Cedarville opens the season at 5:00 p.m. on Friday against Ferris State at the Bellarmine Classic.
