CEDARVILLE, Ohio -
Kirk Martin reached the 300-win plateau as head coach of the Lady Jackets after Cedarville cruised past Mount Vernon Nazarene, 76-40, in a non-conference women's basketball game staged in the Callan Athletic Center.
Martin, who took over the reins at his alma mater in time for the 2001-02 season, sports a .794 winning percentage in 11-plus seasons (300-78). His teams have averaged 26.6 wins per year with eleven 20-win campaigns including three with at least 30 victories.
This contest, however, was never in doubt after the Lady Jackets sprinted to a 19-3 lead in the first seven minutes. CU shot 54 percent from the field and limited the Cougars to four field goals in the first period to enjoy a 38-13 lead at the break.
Despite cooling off in the second half, the margin swelled to as much as 37 points. The outcome ended a two-game skid for the Lady Jackets, 7-2 overall.
Kayla Jenerette totaled 17 points with five assists for Cedarville.
Kayla Linkous came off the bench with 14 points while
Raegan Ryan chipped in 12 points and five assists.
MVNU drops to 2-10.
