Urbana holds off Cedarville in G-MAC semis

Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The #3 seed Lady Jackets twice eliminated double-digit deficits against #2 Urbana, but the Blue Knights scored the final four points to come away with a 74-71 verdict in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament semifinal played at Trevecca Nazarene.

The scoring was actually completed with 1:31 left on a UU basket. The two teams combined to miss five field goals and all four free throw attempts coming down the stretch.

However, that doesn't diminish Cedarville's ability to come back - twice.

Urbana busted out to a 25-13 lead only to see the Jackets forge four ties in the final five minutes of the first half. The Knights led 38-35 at the break.

A 14-2 run to start the second period staked Urbana to its largest margin of the night, 52-38, with 17:35 to go. The Lady Jackets answered with 11 consecutive points and it was a ball game the rest of the way.

CU took its first lead, 62-61, at the 7:30 mark. They had three other leads, the last of which was 71-70 on a Kayla Linkous jumper with 2:25 to play.

Linkous finished with team-highs of 17 points and eight rebounds for Cedarville, 18-9 overall. Deborah Chandler totaled 13 points, Kayla Jenerette had 12, and Raegan Ryan handed out seven assists.

The Lady Jackets will play in the NCCAA National Tournament on March 13-16 in Winona Lake, Ind.
