CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Ohio Dominican halted league-leading Cedarville's nine-match unbeaten streak with a 2-1 victory in a key G-MAC contest to close the regular season.
The outcome knocked the Yellow Jackets down to the #2 seed and cost them a share of the G-MAC regular season title.
ODU was the beneficiary of a strange hand ball near the penalty area with just seven seconds remaining in the first half.
The Panthers converted the 20-yard free kick breaking a string of nearly 300 scoreless minutes by the CU defense.
An awkward through ball early in the second half gave the visitors a 2-0 bulge in a span of less than three minutes of playing time.
The Jackets tallied in the 81st minute when
Jonny Stephens flicked in
Conner Hughes' corner kick.
Cedarville heads to the post-season 11-5-2 overall and 10-2-2 G-MAC.
Stinger Notes:
- Tiffin (33 points) nipped the Jackets (32 points) for the G-MAC regular season title.
- Both teams earn first round byes in the six-team tournament, but the Dragons will host the semifinals (Nov. 1) and final (Nov. 3).
- Cedarville's two losses in G-MAC play were fewer than any other team in the league.
- The Jackets and ODU split their two regular season games. CU leads the all-time series, 21-11-3.
