Stunner! Yellow Jackets upset No. 5 Lake Erie

HIGHLIGHTS  |  PHOTO GALLERY

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Sammy Kilimann netted the goal and Cedarville withstood a furious push from previously unbeaten and No. 5 Lake Erie for a key 1-0 G-MAC men's soccer result.

The outcome avenged the only loss of the season to date by the Yellow Jackets, 6-1-5 overall and 4-1-4 G-MAC, who are now unbeaten in seven straight.

Lake Erie, who had edged CU, 2-1, on its home turf on Sept. 21, drops to 12-1 and 8-1 G-MAC.

Kilimann was the beneficiary of the chilly, windy, and damp conditions when his 35-yard free kick in the 29th minute was mishandled off the keeper's chest and into the net.

The teams were evenly matched the rest of the way. The visitors attempted more shots, 13-12, but the Yellow Jackets had more on goal, 7-2.

Carter Selvius made two saves while recording his fifth shutout of the season and 12th of his career.

Stinger Notes:
  • Lake Erie has surrendered just six goals this season.
  • The Storm played a man down for the final 25 minutes following a red card.
  • There were seven yellow cards shown - three on LEC and four on CU.
  • The Yellow Jackets are 4-0-3 during their current unbeaten string.
  • Lake Erie is the highest-ranked team Cedarville has defeated in the Division II era.
  • CU leads the all-time series vs. the Storm, 3-1-1.
  • The highest rated DII team the Jackets ever played was at No. 3 Charleston WV - a 2-0 setback on 10/18/14.
