COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Lady Jackets never trailed, but they had to hang on in the final seconds to nip Saginaw Valley State, 59-57, in a non-conference game played at Ohio Dominican's Alumni Hall.
It was the fifth consecutive victory for Cedarville, 5-1.
The Cardinals nearly erased all of a 16-point third quarter deficit and had two free throws to tie the game with two seconds left. They made the first, but missed the second allowing the Jackets to escape in regulation.
Cedarville held SVSU to five points in the second quarter to build a 14-point halftime lead. The bulge increased to 44-28 three minutes into the second half.
Stevie Johnting came off the bench to score 12 points.
Abby Wolford and
Alli Roh added 11 points each.
Stinger Notes:
- Ashlyn Huffman was credited with six assists - the fourth time she's handed out at least six.
- CU did not shoot a free throw until the final 16 seconds of the game.
- The Jackets committed 12 turnovers, but forced Saginaw Valley into 19 miscues.
- Roh hauled in a season-high nine rebounds.
- Cedarville drained a season-best 13 three-point shots.
- It was the first-ever women's basketball meeting between the two schools.
