Olivia Hoffman netted three goals and top seed Cedarville overwhelmed No. 9 Ecclesia, 4-0, in the first game of the NCCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship at the Austin-Tindall Sports Complex.
The Lady Jackets, 13-6-1, take a day off before wrapping up pool play on Wednesday against No. 6 Judson at 1:00 p.m. EST.
CU dominated the contest from the opening kickoff by outshooting the Royals 52-0 featuring 27 shots on goal. The corner kick margin was 13-0.
Hoffman finally broke through in the 30th minute with
Rose Anthony assisting. It remained 1-0 until the hour mark when
Aleah Martone tallied from
Bethany Alecusan.
Hoffman struck again in the 75th minute from
Emma Conway and then got the hat trick unassisted in the 89th with her team-leading 11th goal of the campaign.
Stinger Notes:
- Hoffman is the first Lady Jacket in more than four years to score three goals in a game.
- It's the 23rd time a CU player has registered a hat trick.
- The school record of four goals in one game has occurred five times.
- Allison Garlock was credited with her ninth shutout tying the CU season record (Hanna Harris, 2013).
- Cedarville equaled the single-season team record of ten shutouts (2013).
- The 52 shots broke the school record (51) set on 9/27/97 at Huntington - the second game in program history.
- It was the first women's soccer meeting between the two schools.
