FRANKFORT, Ky. - The Yellow Jackets began the 2019 season with a 6-4 victory over previously unbeaten Kentucky State with the hosts rebounding to take game two, 6-0.
Logan Eby had two hits including a solo homer and two RBI in the nine-inning opener.
Payton Eeles made his collegiate debut with a double and a single.
Bryce Hughes stole three bases and scored twice while
Alan Perry also tallied two runs.
Starting pitcher
Drew Minnich struck out four in 4 1/3 innings. Freshman
Gage Voorhees was credited with the victory as he fanned three batters in 2 2/3 innings of work.
Hunter Kraynak nailed down the victory to register the save on a game-ending double play when KSU had the potential winning run at the plate.
Cedarville was on the short end of a no hitter in the seven-inning second contest. The Thorobreds, 6-1-1 overall, scored all six of their runs in the fourth.
Stinger Notes:
- The save was Kraynak's first of his career in 16 appearances.
- Hughes has 26 steals in 32 games at Cedarville.
- Eby's home run was the sixth of his career.
- The two teams are scheduled to play again on April 16 at the Cincinnati Reds Urban Youth Academy.
- The Jackets begin a nine-game spring break trip in Georgia at Young Harris on Feb. 28.
