KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Defending Division III national champion Texas-Tyler scored four runs in the ninth inning to defeat the Yellow Jackets, 7-3, in the first game of the RussMatt Invitational at Heritage Park.
The first four Patriots reached base in their final at bat as they used four hits and a walk to take control.
Cedarville grabbed a 3-1 lead in the fourth when
Logan Eby took an 0-2 pitch to right field for a three-run double scoring
Matthew Biermann,
Elijah Sanchez, and
Payton Eeles.
Texas-Tyler immediately answered with two runs in the fifth inning and the contest remained deadlocked until the ninth.
The Yellow Jackets, 2-3, managed just three hits other than Eby's double. Eeles,
Bryce Hughes, and
Markus Neff all singled.
Stinger Notes:
- It was the first baseball meeting between the two schools.
- Starting pitcher Drew Minnich allowed one earned run in four innings with three strikeouts.
- Eeles, Austin Brown, and Connor Culhane all recorded stolen bases.
- UT-Tyler committed the only error of the game.
- CU resumes play on Monday against Midwest Region foe Ashland at 3:00 p.m.
