CEDARVILLE, Ohio -
Ross Melchior's two-run single in the eighth inning broke a 7-7 deadlock and propelled the Yellow Jackets to a 10-7 victory over Tiffin and square their four-game G-MAC series.
The Dragons were 5-1 winners in the opener.
Melchior singled sharply to center field with the bases loaded scoring
Payton Eeles and
Bryce Hughes.
Connor Culhane added an RBI single that ricocheted off the pitcher's leg for the final run.
Melchior finished with two hits, two runs scored, and four RBI for Cedarville, 8-12 overall and 4-4 G-MAC.
Eeles totaled three hits and two runs, Hughes added two hits with three runs, and Culhane chipped in two hits and two RBI.
Matthew Biermann clubbed a two-run homer.
Elliott Gilmore, 1-0, tossed the eighth inning of scoreless relief to get his first career victory.
Noah Schleinitz pitched the ninth and locked up his fourth save.
CU managed just three hits in the seven-inning first game. Eeles had two of them including a double and
Logan Eby singled.
Stinger Notes:
- Eeles went 5-for-8 with a double, three runs scored, and a stolen base. He has a team-high eight multi-hit games.
- Melchior has had four outings in which he's driven in at least four runs.
- Biermann has reached base in 11 consecutive games.
- Tiffin hit three sacrifice flies in each contest.
- The teams combined to leave 44 runners on base in the two games.
- CU and Tiffin met in a conference series for the first time since being members of the old NAIA American Mideast Conference.
- The Jackets play a G-MAC doubleheader at Ohio Dominican on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. EDT.
