CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Ohio Valley placed four players in double figures and used outstanding shooting to outlast Cedarville, 102-95, in a G-MAC contest played at the Callan Athletic Center.
The Yellow Jackets were without the services of four of their starters in the 2020-21 season opener.
The Fighting Scots, 1-1 overall and 1-1 G-MAC, were solid all over the floor. They shot 51 percent from the field, knocked down 12 triples, and converted 28-of-33 free throws.
Freshman
Grant Whisman made his collegiate debut an impressive one with 26 points and seven rebounds.
Isaiah Speelman netted 25 points while
Jacob Drees posted a double-double of 23 points and ten rebounds.
After trailing by three at the intermission, the Jackets' only lead of the second half was 49-48 at the 18:40 mark.
It was a three-point game with 7:40 to play, but OVU scored the next seven points for a 79-69 margin to take control.
Stinger Notes:
- Starters Quinton Green, Branden Maughmer, Conner TenHove, and Kollin Van Horn were not in uniform.
- The foursome was CU's top four scorers last winter averaging a combined 52.9 points per game.
- Drees set career-highs in points, rebounds, and assists (8).
- Both teams committed ten turnovers apiece.
- The Jackets shot 51 percent from the field and made ten three-pointers.
- Cedarville holds a 13-2 lead in the all-time series.
- The rematch in Vienna, W.Va. is set for January 28.
