CU gets by Ashland on Volk’s OT winner

HIGHLIGHTS

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Andy Volk poked in a rebound off the Ashland keeper in the 99th minute to give the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 win in a G-MAC rematch.

The outcome was the fifth consecutive victory for Cedarville, 9-2-1 overall and 6-2-1 G-MAC.

Pedro Alvares one-hopped a 25-yard shot that the Eagles' keeper stopped, but Volk was there on the follow up to knock the ball into an open net from short range.

Ashland also entered on a four-game winning streak following a 1-1 draw against the Yellow Jackets three weeks prior.

Both teams placed five attempts on goal while CU had double the shots overall, 16-8.

Stinger Notes:
  • Jared Zacharias made five saves in posting his third shutout.
  • CU is 4-0-1 in overtime contests this fall.
  • Volk also scored the OT winner at California PA.
  • The Jackets are 6-0 at home and 13-0-1 on campus in the last 14 games.
  • The next three assignments will be played on the road (Trevecca, Kentucky Wesleyan, Findlay).
  • Cedarville holds a 5-2-1 lead in the all-time series.
