QUINCY, Ill. - NABC Division II No. 6 Truman State used torrid shooting to race out to a big lead and then held on to beat the Yellow Jackets, 87-80, in the season opener at the Midwest Region Crossover.
The Bulldogs buried 10-of-13 three pointers in the opening 20 minutes for a 51-34 halftime cushion.
Cedarville knocked down 8-of-14 shots from deep in the second period to get as close as three points on two occasions.
Quinton Green's three-ball cut the deficit to 83-80 with 23 seconds left, but TSU iced the outcome with four free throws late.
Isaiah Speelman came off the bench to score 14 of his game-high 25 points in the second half while leading five players in double figures.
Conner TenHove flipped in 17 points with a game-high nine rebounds.
Jayvon Maughmer tallied 17 points while Green and
Branden Maughmer added 11 each.

- Speelman and TenHove drilled four three-pointers each.
- CU's bench scoring was at a 26-6 margin.
- The Yellow Jackets committed just six turnovers compared to 11 for Truman.
