Lady Jackets drop G-MAC title tilt in OT

CHAMPIONSHIP INFO

ASHLAND, Ohio - No. 1 seed Ashland stung Cedarville, 2-1, with a goal late in the first overtime to claim the G-MAC Women's Soccer Championship.

The United Soccer Coaches Division II No. 15 Eagles, 15-1-3, earned the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.

The Lady Jackets, 12-5-2, have to wait until Monday to see if they're awarded an at-large bid.

The winning strike came from 20 yards away in the 99th minute.

Ashland netted the game's first goal in the 50th minute, but CU equalized in the 74th when Mackenzie Northcutt drilled a 25-yard free kick into the upper 90.

Stinger Notes:
  • Goalkeeper Brooke Ackley made four saves and the back line was credited with another.
  • The Eagles had more shots overall, 19-8, with a much closer 7-6 edge on goal.
  • Northcutt scored both of Cedarville's goals in the tournament.
  • AU is the only G-MAC opponent to beat the Jackets this fall doing it three times.
  • Cedarville had not allowed a goal in 453 minutes.
  • CU was making its third appearance in the conference championship game.
  • Ashland leads the all-time series, 3-1.
