CU beats Walsh; clinches No. 2 seed

HIGHLIGHTS

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Pedro Alvares' brace sandwiched around a Jake Johnson's game-winner gave the Yellow Jackets a 3-1 result over Walsh in the regular season finale.

The outcome gives Cedarville the No. 2 seed in the G-MAC Tournament including a bye in the opening round.

Alvares one-timer through traffic found the back of the net in the 25th minute.

After the Cavaliers equalized in the 57th, Johnson cleaned up a loose ball in the box less than five minutes later to regain the lead.

Alvares put the finishing touches on the victory by converting a PK in the 83rd minute.

The Yellow Jackets completed the regular schedule 13-3-1 overall and 10-3-1 G-MAC thanks to winning nine of their last ten games.

Stinger Notes:
  • Jared Zacharias made five saves in goal.
  • The home side had more shots - 24-14 overall and 9-6 on goal.
  • Alvares' six goals and five assists leads the team.
  • Walsh, then ranked No. 23, had blanked the Jackets 3-0 in North Canton, Ohio on Sept. 30.
  • The Cavaliers lead the all-time series, 26-22-6.
  • Cedarville was 7-0 on campus this fall and is unbeaten on the home turf in the last 23 games (19-0-4).
  • The No. 2 Jackets will play the winner of No. 3 Ohio Dominican and No. 6 Tiffin in the G-MAC Semifinals on Nov. 11 at 4:00 p.m. EST in Painesville, Ohio.
