ALLENDALE, Mich. - Grand Valley State built a sizable advantage which was good enough to hold off Cedarville, 80-71, in a non-conference game at GVSU Fieldhouse Arena.
The Lakers, 2-0, shot a sizzling 63 percent over the first 20 minutes and started quickly in the second half for a 51-32 bulge with 16:45 remaining.
The Yellow Jackets stormed back to within 74-69 at the 1:22 mark, but the hosts were able to ice the outcome from the free throw line.
Quinton Green scored 22 points for Cedarville, 1-3, and became the 57th player in the program's history to surpass 1,000 career points.
Branden Maughmer tallied 16 points,
Isaiah Speelman came off the bench with 11, and
Conner TenHove had 10.

- Green joins Maughmer and TenHove as current players in the 1,000 Point Club.
- Speelman hauled in a team-high eight rebounds.
- The Maughmer brothers dished out four assists each.
- Grand Valley State shot 59 percent for the game.
