CEDARVILLE, Ohio -
Branden Maughmer led Cedarville's high-powered offense to an impressive 101-88 win over Southern Indiana in the home opener at the Callan Athletic Center.
Maughmer totaled 26 points, five steals, four rebounds, and three assists for the Yellow Jackets, 2-3.
The home team shot a sizzling 77 percent in the first half which featured a 23-6 run that provided a 53-34 spread.
USI screamed back to within 57-51 three minutes into the second period, but the Jackets responded with a 15-5 spurt to get some breathing room.
Quinton Green netted 17 of his 19 points in the first half.
Conner TenHove contributed 18 points and
Jayvon Maughmer added 13.
Stinger Notes:
- The Yellow Jackets made their first 21 free throws and finished 28-of-30.
- Green, B. Maughmer, and TenHove each went 8-for-8 at the stripe.
- The .589 field goal percentage was the best through five games.
- CU forced more turnovers (19-12) and came away with a season-high 14 steals.
- The Jackets tallied more points in the paint, 44-26.
- The lead changed hands seven times in the first ten minutes of the game.
- USI leads the all-time series, 3-1, but it was the Eagles first visit to Cedarville.
