HIGHLIGHTS
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - NABC Division II No. 15 Hillsdale scored the winning basket with 3.5 seconds left to stun Cedarville, 58-57, in a battle for first place in the G-MAC at the Callan Athletic Center.
Jayvon Maughmer's put back with 24.6 seconds to go had given the Yellow Jackets a 57-54 lead.
The visitors made two free throws with 14.7 ticks on the clock and CU misfired on the front end of a one-and-one with 13 seconds remaining setting up the finish.
Offense was at a premium as
Quinton Green totaled 14 points for Cedarville, 5-4 overall and 3-1 G-MAC.
Maughmer tallied 11 points,
Kollin Van Horn chipped in eight, and
Isaiah Speelman had a team-high six rebounds.
Stinger Notes:
- There were nine lead changes and six tie scores.
- The hosts had one more rebound (30-29) and committed three fewer turnovers (13-16).
- CU was 5-for-7 at the line - season-lows for free throws made and attempted.
- Freshman Brayden Sipple scored a season-high seven points off the bench.
- Leading scorer Branden Maughmer missed his second straight game with an injury.
- Cedarville's last three games have been decided by a total of six points.
- The Jackets are 0-10 all-time vs. the Chargers.
- The two sides play again on January 29 in Hillsdale, Mich.
