Bertke fires one-hitter at Findlay

FINDLAY, Ohio - Freshman pitcher Casey Bertke spun a one-hitter as Cedarville opened G-MAC softball play with a 1-0 win at Findlay.

The Oilers blanked the Yellow Jackets in the second contest, 6-0.

Bertke, 6-4, struck out seven and walked one during her third shutout and sixth complete game of the spring.

The only hit she allowed was an infield single in the fourth inning.

Faith Bergner's two-out single in the sixth drove in McKenna Smith with the game's only run.

CU totaled five hits with others coming from Smith, Kaley Clark, Kylie Hertzler, and Lexi Parsons.

The only hits for the Jackets in game two were a pair of singles by Parsons.

Stinger Notes:
  • Carrie Jespersen was hit by pitch twice in the opener - the second time in her career that's happened.
  • Bertke totaled just 78 pitches in seven innings.
  • Cedarville pitchers had tossed 17 consecutive scoreless innings before the Oilers scored in game two.
  • Findlay leads the all-time series, 27-24.
