CHAMPIONSHIP INFO
FINDLAY, Ohio - Freshman of the Year
Casey Bertke homered and fired a complete game to lead No. 8 Cedarville to a 2-1 upset of No. 1 Trevecca in the opening game of the G-MAC Softball Championship at Marathon Diamonds.
The Lady Jackets advance to meet No. 4 Tiffin in a second round contest. The Dragons dumped No. 5 Findlay, 4-2.
Bertke struck out three and did not walk a batter. She kept the league's top hitting team off the scoreboard until surrendering a one-out home run in the bottom of the seventh.
Bertke aided her cause by pounding a solo homer to center field to lead off the seventh inning.
The game was scoreless until the fifth when
Lexi Parsons singled home
Faith Bergner.
Stinger Notes:
- Bertke homered for the second straight game.
- Arica Flaugher registered two hits.
- Brooke Miller doubled while Bergner and McKenna Smith both singled.
- CU and Trevecca are the only schools to qualify for all eight G-MAC Softball Championships.
- The Trojans still lead the all-time series, 25-7.
- The Lady Jackets and Tiffin split their regular season doubleheader this spring at Cedarville.
