INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Indianapolis found the net three times in the second half for a 4-1 non-conference result over the Lady Jackets at Key Stadium in the 2021 season opener for both teams.
The Greyhounds tallied first in the 23rd minute. It took 11 minutes before a pair of Cedarville freshmen combined for the equalizer as
Audrey Nelson took a feed from
Payton Fraley and fired in a shot from the top left corner of the 18-yard box.
The score remained tied at 1-1 until the Greyhounds gained some momentum with a goal in the 58th minute and then followed up with two more tallies in the last eight minutes of the contest.
Indianapolis held a 12-5 edge overall in shots and a 5-2 advantage in shots on goal.
The Jackets had four corner kicks to three for the home team.
CU keeper
Jocelyn Gross logged all 90 minutes in goal and made one save.
Stinger Notes:
- The start of the game was delayed by one hour due to major traffic congestion for the CU bus on Interstate 70.
- It was the first-ever meeting between the two schools in women's soccer.
- Cedarville is picked fourth in the G-MAC Preseason Coaches' Poll and Indy is voted third in the GLVC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
- The Lady Jackets' next two contests will be at home beginning with the 2021 home opener on Wednesday, Sept. 8 against Southern Indiana. NCAA Division II No. 6 Lee visits Lady Jacket Field on Saturday, Sept. 11.
