OWENSBORO, Ky. -
Jayvon Maughmer matched his career-high with 18 points to lead Cedarville to a 72-65 G-MAC win over Kentucky Wesleyan at the Sportscenter.
The 6-foot-5 sophomore drained a trio of key three-pointers in the final 3:20 for the Yellow Jackets, 8-5 overall and 4-2 G-MAC.
Trailing 59-57 with 4:30 to play, the visitors made their move by scoring ten unanswered points on back-to-back baskets by
Isaiah Speelman and Maughmer's first two triples.
After the Panthers cut the difference to 67-63, Maughmer sealed the outcome on his third bomb with 26 seconds remaining.
Speelman and
Grant Whisman tallied 14 points each.
Branden Maughmer had ten points and
Conner TenHove gathered in ten rebounds.
Stinger Notes:
- Whisman scored all 14 of his points in the first half including four treys.
- Jayvon Maughmer was 4-for-5 outside the arc and dished out a team-high six assists.
- As a team, CU knocked down 8-of-15 threes in the second period.
- The game was tied for six minutes with each side holding the lead 17 minutes apiece.
- There were eight lead changes and the score was deadlocked ten times.
- KWC leads the all-time series, 10-6, but Cedarville has won the last five meetings.
- The Jackets own four straight victories in the Owensboro Sportscenter.
- The Panthers visit CU on February 3.
