COLUMBUS, Ohio - Cedarville needed a victory to secure its playoff future in the regular season finale at Ohio Dominican and got it by a 2-1 count.
The Yellow Jackets, 9-7-2 overall and 7-6-1 G-MAC, will play a conference tournament quarterfinal road game on Saturday.
Andy Volk put the visitors on the board first in 19th minute with
Gabe Byrd providing the assist.
Mauricio Ochoa Vazquez made it a 2-0 margin in the 51st from
Victor Pomelli.
Cedarville was able to close the deal despite the Panthers pulling a goal back in the 75th minute.
Stinger Notes:
- CU has now qualified for all 11 G-MAC Tournaments.
- Vazquez' goal was his team-high seventh of the season and 21st of his career.
- Pomelli leads the club with six assists.
- Byrd's assist was his first career point in 33 games played.
- Each team attempted ten shots; Cedarville had a 4-3 edge on goal.
- The Jackets and ODU met twice in the 2021 post-season: G-MAC semifinals and NCAA first round.
- Cedarville holds a 26-13-4 lead in the all-time series which began in 1977.
