VALPARAISO, Ind. - The Yellow Jackets charged back from an 18-point deficit and had a chance to win in an 83-79 exhibition setback at Division I Valparaiso.
Jacob Drees' double-double of 22 points and 14 rebounds led upset-minded Cedarville.
Jayvon Maughmer scored 19 points while
Brayden Sipple came off the bench to net 14.
The host Beacons never trailed, led 42-28 at halftime, and expanded the margin to 58-40 with 12:19 remaining.
CU went on a 17-6 run to get back in it and had the ball in the final seconds trailing 81-79.
The visitors misfired on a go ahead three-pointer and failed to score on the rebound. Valpo iced the result with two free throws with one second left.
Stinger Notes:
- Drees piled up 19 points in the second half.
- Maughmer dished out a team-high four assists.
- Grant Whisman supplied ten points and seven rebounds.
- The Jackets totaled 12 three-point baskets from seven different players.
- The Beacons had the rebounding edge, 42-39.
- Former Yellow Jacket Quinton Green had nine points and four rebounds in 21 minutes for the hosts.
- Valpo defeated Cedarville 85-65 in an exhibition game prior to the 2019-20 season.
- The Yellow Jackets host the Midwest Region Crossover on November 11-12 with the season opener on Friday vs. Truman State at 7:45 p.m.
