CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The Lady Jackets and Saginaw Valley State split a non-conference doubleheader to begin Cedarville's 2022 home schedule.
Casey Bertke did it all in the opener to lead CU to a 1-0 victory.
She had two of the team's four hits including an RBI double in the first inning to drive in
Mackenzie Russell.
The sophomore righthander did the rest inside the circle by firing a complete game four-hitter with six strikeouts.
The Cardinals opened up a 4-0 lead into the sixth inning of the second game.
Kaley Clark drove in
McKenna Smith with an RBI fielders choice.Â
Russell had two of the squad's six hits, all singles, for the Lady Jackets, 15-6 overall.
Stinger Notes:
- The shutout was Bertke's second this season and sixth of her career.
- Russell has eight multi-hit games.
- Each team had four hits apiece in the opener and six hits apiece in the second contest.
- Weather conditions were sunny, breezy, and 68 degrees.
- Entering the twinbill, SVSU had scored at least three runs in every game this spring.
- The Cardinals lead the all-time series against the Jackets, 6-5.
