CHAMPIONSHIP INFO
NORTH CANTON, Ohio - No. 1 seed Walsh pulled away in the second half to defeat No. 6 Cedarville, 76-62, to claim the 2022 G-MAC Men's Basketball Championship.
The Yellow Jackets, 19-12, now must wait for Selection Sunday to see if they can squeak in to the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional with an at-large bid.
CU was within 37-30 of the league's regular season champions at halftime, but then ran out of gas over the final 20 minutes.
Branden Maughmer and
Kollin Van Horn scored 12 points each for the Jackets with
Quinton Green chipping in ten.
It was the second consecutive year that Cedarville made a run from the No. 6 seed only to fall short in the final game.
Stinger Notes:
- CU outrebounded the hosts, 33-29, with Isaiah Speelman grabbing seven.
- Maughmer dished out a team-high four assists.
- Walsh shot 59 percent for the game and led by as many as 21 points with five minutes left.
- The Cavaliers lead the all-time series, 51-45.
- The Yellow Jackets were rated tenth in the most recent regional ranking.
- Three automatic qualifiers and five at-large teams make the upcoming Midwest Regional.
