HILLSDALE, Mich. -
Lucas Rotello's two-out three-run homer in the seventh inning propelled the Yellow Jackets to a 4-1 win at Hillsdale and a sweep of their G-MAC doubleheader.
Cedarville outslugged the Chargers in the nine-inning first game, 18-12.
Rotello lifted an 0-1 pitch over the fence in left center for what resulted in the game winner for the Jackets, 13-16 overall and 7-6 G-MAC.
Sam Punzi accounted for CU's other run in the fourth with his third home run of the day and ninth of the season.
Reid Hale pitched a scoreless seventh for his fourth save.
Ethan Milburn, 4-2, struck out six in six innings of work.
In the opener, Cedarville charged out to a 13-0 lead through four at bats.
Punzi pounded three hits including two home runs, three runs scored, and five RBI.
Payton Eeles racked up four hits with two doubles, a homer, three runs, and seven RBI.
Chase Springmeyer (3),
Austin Brown (2), and
Hunter Laurell (2) all had multi-hit games.
Kevin Zhang, 1-1, tossed the final five innings in relief to get the victory.
Stinger Notes:
- CU surpassed the previous school record for most home runs in a season (27) set in 2010.
- The two teams combined for 36 hits in the first game - 15 for extra bases featuring six home runs.
- Three of the nine combined hits in the nightcap were long balls.
- Punzi's nine bombs are tied for the fourth most in a season.
- Rotello sports a 12-game hitting streak plus RBI's in each of his last five outings.
- Eeles has reached base in all 29 games this spring.
