CLEVELAND, Tenn. -
Mary Kate Wyer tallied a goal and an assist while the Lady Jacket defense held firm in a 2-0 result over Carson-Newman in the 2022 season opener.
Brooke Ackley made ten saves in goal, one shy of her career high, while recording her 11th career shutout.
Wyer and
Addie Erslan set up
Olivia Hoffman for the first goal of the campaign in the 22nd minute.
The insurance goal didn't come until the 86th when Wyer scored from
Megan McClish.
The Eagles outshot CU, 16-13, in what was the first-ever women's soccer meeting between the two schools.
Stinger Notes:
- The contest was played at Lee University.
- Hoffman's goal was the 17th of her career and for Wyer it was her 14th.
- Only four corner kicks were attempted - CU, 3-1.
- The Jackets were called for 15 fouls compared to eight for CNU.
