Michael Payne and
Mauricio Ochoa Vazquez netted the goals as the Yellow Jackets opened the 2022 season with a 2-0 result against visiting Wheeling.
A crowd of 1,278 fans turned out for 'Pack the Track Night.'
Payne headed in a corner from
Victor Pomelli in the 21st minute for the first tally of the campaign.
Pomelli's free kick from 25 yards out in the 49th was headed home by Vazquez.
Goalkeeper
Jared Zacharias made two saves while posting his ninth career shutout.
Stinger Notes:
- Payne's goal was the first of his career while Vazquez tallied his 15th.
- The Yellow Jackets had the shot advantage: 14-9 overall and 5-3 on goal.
- Wheeling attempted five corner kicks compared to two for Cedarville.
- It was the first-ever men's soccer meeting between the two schools.
- Following a several year hiatus, CU students were allowed back on the track to cheer from field level.
