CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The Lady Jackets opened the home season by sweeping West Virginia State in a non-conference doubleheader by scores of 6-2 and 9-0 in five innings.
Cedarville, 6-14 overall, ended a nine-game losing streak in the process.
Adaline Ziehmer fired a one-hitter in the second game which ended in the fifth inning by the eight-run mercy rule. She struck out three and walked three.
The Jackets started quickly by sending 14 batters to the plate in the first inning and scored eight runs.
Dana Bertke and
Faith Bergner had two hits and two RBI apiece.
Kaley Clark tallied two hits and
Casey Bertke ripped a two-run double.
Dana Bertke went 3-for-3 in the opener with two steals and two runs scored while Bergner added two hits and two RBI.
Casey Bertke went the distance in the circle with seven strikeouts and helped her cause by getting the scoring underway with a three-run triple in the third inning.
