CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Alex Long slid home the game's only goal midway through the second half and the Yellow Jackets held off visiting West Virginia Wesleyan, 1-0, in the season opener for both schools.

CU newcomer Michael Catanzarite delivered a long, low cross from the right side through traffic to the back post.

Long stretched out to redirect it into the net in the 68th minute.

That was the best opportunity for either side in what turned out to be a defensive battle.

The hosts outshot WVWC 13-6 overall and 4-1 on goal.

Jabari Gray needed to make just one save in his first appearance as a Yellow Jacket keeper.
