HIGHLIGHTS
CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Defense and key plays down the stretch provided G-MAC leader Cedarville a tough 68-59 win over Malone at the Callan Athletic Center.
Jayvon Maughmer scored 14 points to lead four players in double figures for the Jackets, 14-5 overall and 8-1 G-MAC.
Anthony Ruffolo came off the bench with 13 points,
Chris Rogers flipped in 12, and
Jacob Drees notched his fourth consecutive double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Cedarville has won seven straight and eight of its last nine contests.
The hosts broke a 17-17 deadlock with a 12-point run to take the lead for good, but they had to fend off the Pioneers who got as close as 50-48 with seven minutes left.
Ruffolo's steal and layup produced a seven-point cushion at the 3:15 mark.
Maughmer made a field goal, a three-pointer, and two free throws in less than two minutes to make it 63-55 with 47 seconds to go.
STINGER NOTES:
- Cedarville was held to season-lows for points and three-point percentage (.280).
- Conversely, the four turnovers were the fewest by the Jackets this winter.
- CU had a 43-38 edge on the boards with 14 offensive rebounds.
- Drees has grabbed ten or more rebounds in seven straight outings (12.0 rpg).
- Maughmer extended his double figure scoring streak to 36 games in a row.
- It was the 110th meeting between the longtime rivals and the only regular season contest this year.
- Malone leads the all-time series, 61-49, which began during the 1958-59 campaign.
