CEDARVILLE, Ohio -
Jayvon Maughmer dropped in 23 points and the Yellow Jackets beat G-MAC foe Hillsdale, 68-56, for their first win ever over the Chargers in the Callan Athletic Center.
Ethan Sellars scored 15 points for Cedarville, 15-5 overall and 9-1 G-MAC, who remains atop the conference standings.
Clinging to a 56-51 edge with 7:40 remaining, the Jackets' defense clamped down to hold the visitors scoreless for the next five minutes.
Sellars tallied a three-point play,
Jacob Drees added a dunk, and a Maughmer basket finished an eight-point spurt for a 13-point margin at the 2:45 mark.
Hillsdale bolted to a 10-0 lead before the game was two minutes old. CU replied with a 16-4 run and eventually held a 40-32 advantage by halftime.
STINGER NOTES:
- Entering the game, Cedarville was 0-6 at home vs. Hillsdale.
- Maughmer, who leads the G-MAC in scoring, netted 17 of his points in the first half.
- Drees, who tops the league in rebounds, grabbed ten boards - his eighth straight game of ten or more.
- The defense is allowing just 53.0 ppg in the last three games.
- CU was not whistled for its first foul until 16:13 left in the game (Drees).
- The Jackets committed just seven turnovers and forced nine.
- The home team had the advantage in bench scoring (20-11).
- The Chargers lead the all-time series, 15-2.
- The rematch is February 15 in Hillsdale, Mich.
