CHAMPIONSHIP INFO
WINONA LAKE, Ind. - No. 1 seed Cedarville ramped up the offense in the second half to take down No. 5 Clinton (S.C.), 88-83, in the semifinals of the NCCAA Men's Basketball Championship.
The Yellow Jackets, 22-12, advance to play No. 2 Wayland Baptist in Saturday's title game at 2:00 p.m. EDT.
Jayvon Maughmer led four CU players in double figures with 17 points.
He was joined by
Chris Rogers (15),
Tymoteusz Pszczola (12), and
Timothy Davis (10).
The Jackets labored through 3-for-22 shooting outside the arc in the first half and trailed 40-35 at the break.
The top seed bounced back with 54 percent accuracy from the field in the final 20 minutes and outscored the Golden Bears, 53-43.
Trailing 41-36 early in the second half, Cedarville took the lead for good with a ten-point spurt. The margin grew to as much as 14 in the final three minutes.
STINGER NOTES:
- Cedarville controlled the boards by a 52-38 margin.
- Jacob Drees returned to the starting lineup and grabbed 13 rebounds - the 16th time he's totaled at least ten.
- The Jackets' bench outscored Clinton's, 42-14.
- Davis, Drees, Pszczola, and Anthony Ruffolo had three assists apiece.
- The team's 81 field goal attempts was the second-most this season (83 vs. Boyce).
- It was the first meeting between the two schools.
- The Jackets' ten triples marked the 25th time to make at least ten three-point field goals.
