Lady Jackets top Panthers in five, claim division’s top spot

CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The Lady Jackets handed Ohio Dominican its first loss in nearly a month, rallying for a five-set victory to seize control of the G-MAC South Division inside the Callan Athletic Center.

Cedarville prevailed with set scores of 19–25, 25–21, 25–20, 24–26, 15–7. The win halted ODU's nine-match winning streak and lifted the Lady Jackets to 14–5 overall and 7–1 in G-MAC play, putting them atop the division standings.

Match Recap
After dropping the opening frame, Cedarville responded with back-to-back wins in sets two and three behind a balanced attack led by Madelyn Hensley, who recorded 20 kills while surpassing 1,000 for her career.

Janae Heegaard added 11 kills and a team-high 12 total blocks, while Cassi Shields contributed 12 kills and 11 digs.

Setter Kaley Matney orchestrated the offense with 46 assists and chipped in 17 digs, and Alivia Rutt anchored the defense with a match-best 22 digs.

After a narrow fourth-set loss forced a decider, the Lady Jackets jumped out to a 6-0 lead and dominated the fifth 15–7, hitting .500 in the final frame while limiting ODU to a negative percentage. Cedarville's block came up huge down the stretch, totaling 17 team rejections on the night.

Quotable: Head Coach Greg Smith
"It's a great win! We knew it was going to be a hard battle. We always play ODU very competitively every year. Which is fun, but it's also nerve-wracking at the same time, but I'm just very proud of the team! We didn't lose our composure. I loved how we came out in the fifth set. It was awesome to how we responded to losing a tight fourth and showing up in the fifth set."

Quotable: Janae Heegaard
"It was really fun! I think we came out with a lot of energy today. The fifth set we just decided we were going to come out, not let up at all, and that really helped us. We knew this team was definitely a team that played up-and-down, and we do  that as well, but we knew that if we came in with a lot of energy, we played our positions well and connected on the court that it would go well."
