Lady Jackets fall to Quincy in season opener

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. — Cedarville dropped its season opener to Quincy, 71–57, on Friday evening at Pershing Arena in neutral-site action.

The Lady Jackets made a late push in the fourth quarter but couldn't overcome a cold stretch in the middle frames.

Quincy led 37–28 at halftime and extended its advantage with a dominant third quarter before Cedarville closed with a 20-point final period. The Lady Jackets hit nine triples on the night but were hampered by 19 turnovers and 34 percent shooting from the field.

Emma Kay Martin paced Cedarville with 15 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Ella Sellars added nine points and four assists, while Regan Hubert chipped in eight points with two three-pointers. Jenna Sandel and Cait Behling each contributed six points.

The Lady Jackets were strong on the offensive glass, pulling down 15 boards to generate second-chance opportunities, but Quincy's efficiency—shooting 56 percent from the floor—proved the difference.

Quotable: Head Coach Addy Miller
"Putting together a 16–0 run in the fourth quarter says a great deal about the resilience and competitive spirit of this group. Even after falling behind by a large margin, our players showed real toughness and belief in each other. That response is something we can build on. At the same time, we know the next step for us is developing more consistency throughout the game and limiting the stretches where we allow momentum to swing too far in the other direction. Those are areas we'll continue to address and improve. We've got a quick turnaround tomorrow, and that gives us another opportunity to grow, compete, and take a step forward. I'm confident in where this team is headed and excited to see how we respond."
