KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Cedarville held off Truman State 62–60 on Saturday night at Pershing Arena to earn its first victory of the season.
The Lady Jackets jumped ahead early with a 19–10 lead after the opening quarter and maintained control down the stretch despite a late push from the Bulldogs. Cedarville improved to 1–1 with the non-conference win in the GLVC/G-MAC Crossover.
Emma Kay Martin led the way with a career-high 30 points on 11-for-20 shooting, including four three-pointers and four made free throws.
Regan Hubert added 11 points and eight rebounds, while
Chloe Downing chipped in six points and three assists.
Cedarville shot 41 percent from the field (22-of-54) and 76 percent at the line (13-of-17), holding Truman State to 40 percent overall. The Lady Jackets forced 20 turnovers and turned them into 21 points including seven in transition.
After leading 32–31 at halftime, Cedarville used a 16-point third quarter to keep Truman State at arm's length. The Bulldogs recovered to lead 58-55 with 3:35 remaining, but the Jackets responded with six straight points on baskets by
Ella Sellars and Martin sandwiched around two free throws by Hubert.
