Cedarville halts slide with 8-2 W over Chowan

WISE, Va. - The Lady Jackets ended a five-game losing streak with a 8-2 victory against Chowan at Gatton Field.

Host UVA Wise drilled Cedarville, 9-1, in the second game that was called after five innings by the eight-run mercy rule.

Against Chowan, a five-run fourth inning followed by three more runs in the fifth propelled the Lady Jackets.

Winning pitcher Maya Merrill, Camryn Taktak, and Jordan Berry all contributed RBI doubles in the fourth.

Merrill, who struck out a career-high 11 batters, added a two-run single in the fifth.

Taktak doubled twice while Ella Leonard added two hits including a double and two runs scored.

The nightcap was all UVA Wise. CU's only run was a sacrifice fly by Merrill to score Mackenzie Lashuay in the fifth inning.
