Jackets sweep doubles, but WVSU pulls out 4-3 result

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Cedarville absorbed a 4–3 men's tennis non-conference reversal at the hands of West Virginia State at the Johnson-Murdoch Tennis Complex.

The Yellow Jackets jumped out early by claiming all three doubles courts to take the opening point.

Penn Morrison and Alexander Rongos clinched the top flight. Logan DeHaven teamed with Roman Issayev at No. 2 and Paolo Estrada paired with Drew Baumgartner at No. 3 to complete the sweep.

In singles action, Issayev earned a three-set victory at No. 3, and Rongos delivered another three-set win at No. 5.

Four of the six singles matches went to third set super tiebreakers with the two schools each winning two of them. Cedarville falls to 0-2.

Quotable: Head Coach Karl Monson
"I was proud of the fact that we fought hard against a good West Virginia State team. It was impressive that we won the doubles point by sweeping all three matches, but we couldn't hold on in singles. We're getting one step closer to being a pretty good team."
