CEDARVILLE, Ohio – Cedarville opened G-MAC play on the right foot with a 25-21, 25-21, 20-25, 25-21 victory over Hillsdale on Friday night at the Callan Athletic Center.
The Lady Jackets claimed the tightly contested first two sets by identical 25-21 scores. Hillsdale responded in the third, but CU put together its best offensive set of the night in the fourth to finish off the Chargers.
Cedarville finished the final frame with 21 kills and had a hitting percentage of .237. Once tied at 8-8, the Lady Jackets broke through the deadlock with a 5-0 run and maintained the lead to the finish line, where
Madelyn Hensley delivered the match-winning kill.
Hensley led the attack with 17 kills and 2 service aces.
Allie Pilat added 15 kills while
Sienna Hanson was remarkably efficient with 11 kills and a.308 hitting percentage on the night.
Sidney Shepherd handed out 47 assists and added 10 digs.
Alivia Rutt anchored the back line with a match-high 34 digs, with
Bekah Williams collecting 24.
Overall, Cedarville finished with 58 kills and held Hillsdale to a .107 hitting percentage. Defensively the team totaled 8 blocks with
Carley Craighead involved in a team-high 5.
Cedarville improves to 3-5 overall and starts 1-0 in G-MAC play. Their next contest is Saturday against Northwood.
