CEDARVILLE, Ohio – McKendree scored twice in the second half to hand Cedarville a 2-0 setback on Thursday at Yellow Jacket Field.
It was a blisteringly hot day reaching a heat index of 100 degree fahrenheit, which showed in a methodical first half. The Yellow Jackets controlled much of the attack in a scoreless opening half, outshooting the Bearcats, 6-2. Yonis Velasquez-Quezada and
Eddie Merck each put an attempt on target, but Cedarville was unable to break through.
McKendree opened the scoring in the 57th minute after breaking through the defense on a counter attack. before adding an insurance goal with 1:25 remaining in the match.
Cedarville continued to apply pressure after falling behind, generating seven second-half shots and four corner kicks. Velasquez-Quezada finished with a team-high three shots, including two on goal, while Bryan Cortina and Merck attempted two apiece.
The Yellow Jackets fall to 0-2-1 and will next face Maryville on the road September 5.
