What’s up Yellow Jacket Fans!

This past week had its share of ups and downs, and at the end of it our season comes to an end after a quarterfinal loss to Hillsdale in the G-MAC Tournament on Tuesday.

However, instead of focusing on that low light, we did fight tooth and nail and come up just short of beating the #1 team in the conference, Walsh, on the road last Thursday.

Senior Day 2023
After that, we promptly bounced back to defeat Kentucky Wesleyan on a buzzer-beater tip-in in front of an amazing crowd at home for Senior Day this past Saturday. That night we honored student manager Quinn Coupland as well as Bryan Vander Have and Tytist Dean. As a team and I’m sure along the lines of you all, the fans, we could not appreciate more the hard work and dedication each of them has given to the Yellow Jacket basketball program.

Thank you all so much for reading!

What’s up Yellow Jacket fans!

Two tough losses last week have left us falling behind a bit in the conference standings, but anything can happen with the post season just a week away! Last week, we saw ourselves listed in the Top 10 in the region across all of Division II. However, we will have to see if that remains despite the hit to our record as we took a tough loss to both Ashland and Findlay.

With no time to dwell on past losses we look to face Walsh at their place on Thursday and then host Kentucky Wesleyan on Senior Day, in what we hope to be a major revenge game from a tough loss on the road earlier this season. But yes that’s right, the last home game where we will be honoring our Seniors is this Saturday at 4:15 PM, and we will need a packed house to come away with a win for them!

AS always, thank you for reading!

What’s up Yellow Jacket fans!

After a long week trying to rest up after a three-game weekend, a late comeback against Malone was not quite enough to overcome the deficit. After being down for 36 minutes of the 40-minute regulation, we rallied back to force overtime to fall just short on a last second shot.

We have just two home games left this year, one of which is this Thursday (7:45 PM) against Ashland, who we lost to by one on the road earlier this season. After Thursday we will have to move right along to our Saturday away contest against Findlay. Both of these games have plenty on the line in terms of seeding for the G-MAC Tournament which is just four games away!

Per usual, thank you all so much for reading!

What’s up Yellow Jacket fans!

THREE games in FIVE days was no problem for the Jackets as we came away from last week's (and this past Monday’s) games with three wins!

We started off at home against Northwood last Thursday, then went away to finish the sweep against Tiffin in a close road battle, and finished up down in Music City with a win over Trevecca Nazarene University!

With our G-MAC record now at 10-5 we sit at fourth place looking to once again make the conference tournament with just five games remaining in the regular season.

We have a longer week of preparation as we await a Saturday road match up against Malone.

As always, thank you for reading!

What’s up Yellow Jacket fans!

With a great victory against Walsh last Thursday we unfortunately split the week of games due to a tough loss to Lake Erie two days later.

The best thing about the busy G-MAC schedule is that we are already on to the next as we look forward to a very tough road match up on Thursday against (currently ranked) #11 Hillsdale who bested us when they visited earlier in the season.

Then on Saturday we will be back home for Malone University at 4:15 PM!

Currently sitting at 4th in the G-MAC, every upcoming game is a must-win with how competitive the conference is this year.

Be sure to come out to as many home games as possible because we love and need the support!

What’s up Yellow Jacket fans!

After the first week of class for second semester and a quick trip to Ohio Dominican for a great road win, we are back to work for some tough upcoming G-MAC games.

With a day off school on Monday we got started prepping for Walsh and Lake Erie (who visit Thursday at 7:45 PM and Saturday at 4:15 PM,  respectively). Both of these teams should bring a great game along with them, so make sure to show your support as they are both at HOME.

Also on Monday we took a trip as a team to the National Underground Railroad Museum in Cincinnati for some team bonding and a really great experience overall!

We have yet to see Walsh this year but our visit to Lake Erie earlier in the season was a hard fought overtime win, so we will look to repeat that outcome, maybe without the nail-biting! A couple wins against these two teams would be a great way to kick off a challenging stretch of games.

As always, thanks for reading!

What’s up Yellow Jacket fans!

The second semester is here and with it we continue our competition in the G-MAC with a game this week at Ohio Dominican! This is the second time we see the Panthers this year as we look to complete the sweep against them on their home court this Thursday at 7:30 PM!

We finished out our break with a tough loss away at Ashland by one point, but quickly bounced back to a victory against Findlay at home led by Jacob Drees and his impressive triple-double!

With our overall record at 11-4 and our conference record at 4-3, we have some work to do in the G-MAC to ensure a spot in the conference tournament, but we are certainly up for that challenge.

We have missed our packed home crowds and cannot wait to see you all at our next home game on January 19th where we will take on Walsh at 7:45 PM in an important game for the standings!

Good luck during the second semester! Thanks for reading!

Happy New Year!

Your Yellow Jackets ended the year strong with a win against G-MAC opponent Tiffin here at home on December 31st!

With our record now improved to 10-3, we have been working hard in practice and preparing for a big game Thursday, Jan. 5 on the road against Ashland University, who is currently tied for first in the G-MAC.

This will be a huge test on the road followed by a home game against another G-MAC rival in Findlay this Saturday, Jan. 7 at 4:15 PM before classes begin again next week! We cannot wait to play in busier gyms with everyone back on campus soon!

Enjoy the rest of the break and good luck with those resolutions! Thanks for reading!

A busy finals week and three games for the Jackets finally leaves us at Christmas Break! We swept the weekend with convincing victories over Ohio Dominican, Ohio Christian, and Central State, and now we have some (well deserved) time off!

We will be back on campus on December 27th for some practice before an upcoming slate of G-MAC play starting with a visit from Tiffin University on New Year’s Eve at 3:15 PM!

Hopefully Christmas time is helping everyone get some much needed rest! Looking forward to having people back on campus in the New Year!

What’s up Yellow Jacket fans!

After a long week of practice, we took another tough loss on the road last Saturday to another member of the G-MAC, Kentucky Wesleyan. While we now fall to 6-3 and 1-2 in G-MAC play, we look to even the score this Thursday at home against Ohio Dominican at 7:45 PM!

Nothing makes you appreciate a home crowd as much as a tough away game, so we are looking forward to seeing as many of you as we can (despite finals week...) on Thursday night!

We will close out our first semester basketball schedule with home games Saturday against Ohio Christian (4 PM) and Monday versus Central State (3:15 PM).

Merry Christmas, and to all my fellow students, good luck on your exams! Thanks for reading!

After a tough loss to Top-10 ranked Hillsdale last Thursday, the Jackets were finally able to grab our first conference win against Lake Erie! Led by Jayvon Maughmer’s career high 28-point performance, we were able to force overtime and finish off the win with a final score of 91-88 and bring our overall record to 6-2 (1-1 G-MAC).

Looking ahead, we have a longer break between games before another conference road game at Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday, December 10. Finally we will finish off our four game stretch of conference play with Ohio Dominican the following Thursday (Dec. 15) before some home visits from Ohio Christian and Central State. All of that, believe it or not, will take us straight through finals week and to Christmas break!

Thank you all for reading, and good luck to my fellow students as well as we all prepare for exams and finish up this semester strong!

What’s up Yellow Jacket fans!

Hopefully everyone has had a great Thanksgiving and spent some quality time with family and friends over this last week!

As for us Yellow Jackets, we had a little break but have been right back to it with our first road victory of the season this past Saturday against Purdue Northwest. We also fell just short of a comeback in our previous road contest just before break against Lewis University (Nov. 19) but with a bounce-back win against Wilberforce two days later we were able to get right back on track!

We also have an NCCAA Athlete of the Week and G-MAC Player of the Week in our very own Jayvon Maughmer - putting up stat lines of 22 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists against Wilberforce and 21 points, 5 assists, 5 rebounds, and 5 steals against Purdue Northwest.

Currently sitting at 5-1, we open up G-MAC play this Thursday at home against #9 ranked Hillsdale at 7:45 p.m. This will be a huge test for us not only to set the tone for conference play but to also prove ourselves against this longtime rival and historically good team.

Thanks for reading and thank you all so much for the continued support and amazing turnout at home games especially! We need every bit of it on Thursday and are looking forward to it!

What’s up Yellow Jacket fans!

After a busy weekend with back to back home games, your Yellow Jackets are 2 and 0! With the energy from our amazing home crowd and a strong shooting performance from Grant Whisman, we were able to defeat Truman State University on Friday. The following day against Quincy University, Jacob Drees and Jayvon Maughmer led the way in scoring with 23 points apiece helping propel us to a win in an overtime thriller with a final score of 86-85.

After taking some time at the beginning of this week to prepare, we look to continue our hot start at home against Boyce College on Wednesday (7:45 p.m.). Then this weekend we hit the road for a Saturday game facing Lewis University (3:00 p.m.), and then a quick turnaround when we get back home to face Wilberforce University next Monday, Nov. 21 (7:00 p.m.).

Thanks for reading! We are loving all the support of our home crowd and cannot wait to continue playing in front of you all throughout the year!

What’s up Yellow Jacket fans!

My name is Braden Grant, and I have the privilege of writing the blog for your men's basketball team this year! I am a sophomore finance major from Beavercreek, Ohio, and I am looking forward to a great season and bringing you updates every week!

After finishing last year's historic season with an NCAA National Tournament game, the Jackets have re-loaded with some new faces alongside those returning to the team. We welcome Chris Rogers, a graduate student from Trevecca Nazarene University who will help compliment our back court, David Okpara, a redshirt-freshman transfer from Anderson University (SC) that will alter shots with his size and presence in the paint, and Matthew Veen, a sophomore transfer from Eastern Wyoming College, bringing some athleticism and energy to the front court.

Along with these three transfers we also have three incoming freshmen. Ethan Sellars, Kyle Thomas, and Brayden Wilkerson from Ashland, Kentucky, Cloverdale, Indiana, and Grand Rapids, Michigan, respectively. Ethan will join the back court with his shooting ability and quickness, and Kyle will look to improve scoring with his shot creating ability, all complemented by Brayden’s ability to knock down outside shots. Lastly we also welcome graduate assistant T.J. Nagy, who attended and played basketball at Wright State University. These seven new additions have us very excited for the upcoming season!

After lots of hard work, some preseason scrimmages and an exhibition, we are excited to put our hard work on display at the GLVC-G-MAC Crossover this Weekend. We kick off the season against Truman State University on Friday night (7:45 PM) and against Quincy University Saturday afternoon (4:15 PM), with both games being at home!

Thanks for reading! Looking forward to posting updates throughout the season!
