Biography

Alex Beelen returns as a four-year starter for the Yellow Jackets and one of the team’s most experienced players.....NCCAA All-America Second Team selection as a junior.....earned spots on the NCCAA Midwest Region Team and the All-AMC First Team.....AMC Rawlings Gold Glove Team at shortstop.....started all 53 games, 51 at shortstop, and hit in the leadoff spot in every contest.....batted .359 with single-season school records of 71 hits and 50 runs scored.....hit by pitch 12 times to up his CU career record to 34.....reached base safely in a team-high 31 consecutive games and also had a team-best 15-game hitting streak.....registered 17 multi-hit outings with four-hit efforts against Lake Erie and Lock Haven.....had four RBI’s versus Upper Iowa.....has started all 166 games in his career with a .314 batting average.

2010 - Started all 55 games at shortstop as a sophomore.....uncharacteristically struggled at the plate with a .219 batting average, but put together a 12-game hitting streak which was second-best on the club.....recorded eight doubles and three triples with 23 RBI’s and 31 runs scored.....was hit by pitch a team-leading 12 times.....tallied three hits in an 8-5 win versus John Carroll in Florida.....posted seven two-hit games.....had 147 assists in the field to lead the squad for the second straight year.

2009 - Produced an outstanding freshman campaign.....All-NCCAA Midwest Region performer and named CU’s Newcomer of the Year.....started all 58 games in which he played at shortstop and led the squad with a school-record 154 assists.....set other single-season marks for at bats (194) and sacrifice bunts (12).....ranked second on the team with a .351 batting average.....also rated second in hits (68), runs scored (40), total bases (87), and slugging percentage (.448).....paced the club in being hit by pitch (10).....registered a team-high 10-game hitting streak.....produced 16 multi-hit games including five three-hit efforts.....turned in seven assists in an 11-4 victory against Wilmington at Dayton’s Fifth/Third Field.....went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI’s in 8-5 win over Oklahoma Wesleyan at the NCCAA National Tournament.

High School - Produced an outstanding career at Holland Christian High School.....four-year letter winner in baseball.....achieved All-State First Team honors as a senior after hitting .575 and stealing 30-of-31 bases.....posted a 7-2 record on the mound with a 1.09 ERA and averaging 11.50 strikeouts per nine innings.....tossed a complete-game no-hitter.....Named Player of the Year by the Holland Sentinel.....selected to the Zeeland Record All-Area Team.....played in the John Bos OK Conference All-Star Classic and in Michigan’s East-West All-Star Game in Detroit’s Comerica Park.....three-time all-district selection and twice named all-region.....hit .408 as a sophomore and .435 as a junior.....member of two-time conference championship team.....part of 2006 district and regional title squad.....played three seasons of soccer with three letters.....All-State Second Team performer as a junior after being selected all-region.....tallied 18 goals and 11 assists from midfield position in 2006.....two-time all-district and all-conference choice.....member of district championship team.....participated in football one year and earned a letter.
