Steven Dennison

Steven Dennison joined the Cedarville University Baseball coaching staff as the pitching coach in August, 2018.

Dennison began his collegiate coaching career in 2015 with stints in the junior college ranks through Division II as well as with some notable collegiate summer leagues.

In the summer of 2018, Dennison assisted the Kelowna Falcons of the West Coast League to a Championship berth. He has also coached in the Alaska League and the North Woods League.

In the spring of 2017, Dennison headed the pitching staff of Linn Benton Community College where the team posted a remarkable 42-4 record, including a 30 game win streak, a 1.76 season ERA, and a 1.08 season WHIP.

With stops at Division III Alma College in Michigan in 2016 and Division II Colorado Christian University in 2015, Dennison has put in his time working up the coaching ranks. Prior to coaching at the collegiate level, he guided the pitching staff at Regis Jesuit High School in Aurora, Colorado.

Dennison, a 6-foot-7 left-handed pitcher, was drafted after his junior year at Wheaton College in the 34th round (1,037th overall) of the 2010 Major League Baseball draft by the then Florida Marlins. He was the first Wheaton player drafted by MLB since 1999 and only the third to be drafted in school history.

Dennison ultimately decided to forego this opportunity in order to finish his bachelors degree in elementary education. Upon completion of his senior season, he was signed by the Houston Astros in 2011 and played in the Gulf Coast League for two seasons prior to a back injury preventing further competition in professional baseball. In the GCL, Dennison struck out 16 batters in 18.1 innings of relief and posted a 3.93 ERA.

At Wheaton, Dennison is part of the winningest class in Thunder baseball history. Predominantly a starter, he is third in team history for strike outs with a career record of 17-11.

Dennison earned all-conference first team and all-region third team honors as a sophomore. He fanned 60 batters in 57.1 innings while batting .385 with five homers, 33 RBI, and a team-leading .633 slugging percentage.

Dennison, a Colorado native and son of long time NFL coach Rick Dennison, resides in Xenia with his wife, Diana.
