Brett Newman joined the Yellow Jacket men’s basketball coaching staff in 2011.

Newman made the move to Ohio from Florida bringing with him 18 years of coaching experience at multiple levels of basketball including professional minor leagues, NCAA Division II, U.S. military all-stars, junior college, and high school. He also possesses an extensive camp and clinic background.

Newman’s most recent head coaching position was during the 2009-10 season at Academic Magnet High School in Charleston, S.C. It is recognized as one of the top Gold Medal List schools by U.S. News & World Report and is No. 1 in the country among magnet schools - public schools that attract the most talented students in a region.

Newman’s experience at the college level includes a stint as an assistant at Division II Florida Gulf Coast University. He also assisted in the JUCO ranks at Fullerton College and served as head coach of the Southwest Air Force All-Stars featuring a roster from NAIA, junior college, and college prep schools.

Newman has been on the coaching staffs of the ABL New Mexico Roadrunners as well as the IBL New Mexico Slam. He has been an NABC Coaches Clinic Director and has worked at numerous camps throughout the country.

Newman, who holds a degree in sports management from Bryson University, is retired from the United States Marine Corps. Brett and his wife, Cindy, are parents to children Casey, Colby, and Kiera.
