Santos NAIA All-American in 10K

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Nicole Santos took 34 seconds off the school record in the 10,000 meters to place 3rd and earn All-America honors at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championship.

Santos finished the 25 laps in 35:40.06 to wipe out the old school mark of 36:14.24 set by Samantha Maat in 2006. It's the second time for the senior to achieve All-America recognition (top six) in the event having previously accomplished the feat two years ago.

Four other Lady Jackets advanced in their respective events. Lydia Wong moved on to the 1,500 meters final placing 3rd in her heat in 4:35.93. Elisabeth Pyles will shoot for her fourth straight All-America showing in the 3,000 meter steeplechase after finishing 2nd in her heat in 11:03.40.

Bethany Davies advanced to the semifinals in the 400 meter dash by winning her heat in 56.83 seconds. Alexa Winik will run in the 200 semis following a mark of 25.13 seconds which placed 3rd in her heat.

Elsewhere, Tara Leaman was 19th in the hammer (150-6) and 28th in the javelin (110-4). Rachel Wong was 12th in her heat of the 1,500 meters (5:00.33), Carolyn Cann placed 6th in the 400 meter hurdles (1:07.03), Kelsey Watkins ended up 6th in the 100 meter hurdles (15.65), and Winik was 4th in the 100 meter dash (12.51), but all four failed to advance.
