Lady Jackets win nine events; place 3rd in NCCAA

MARION, Ind. - Lydia Wong and Alexa Winik won two events each to lead the Lady Jackets to nine victories in all at the NCCAA Outdoor Championship where Cedarville finished 3rd as a team.

Malone totaled 170 points to cop the banner over 14 other teams in the meet hosted by Indiana Wesleyan. Bethel was the runner-up with 149.2 points and CU was right behind with 147.2.

Wong was the first to cross the finish line in the 800 meters with a time of 2:16.43 and she also won the 1,500 in 4:35.89. Winik sprinted to victory in the 100 meter dash in 12.37 seconds as well as the 200 in 25.28.

Bethany Davies ran to victory in the 400 meter hurdles in 1:03.51, Nicole Santos won the 5,000 meters in 17:14.85; and Elisabeth Pyles took the 3,000 meter steeplechase in 10:58.84. In the field events, Courtnie Merritt cleared 5-feet 5-inches to win the high jump and Tara Leaman was a winner in the hammer with a throw of 153-11.

Those placing in the top three are considered NCCAA All-Americans. Runner-up finishes came from Brittany Simpson in the 5,000 (17:36.24), Leaman in the javelin (132-6) and the 4 x 400 meter relay team of Kelsey Watkins, Davies, Winik, and Lydia Wong (3:54.96).

Turning in third-place efforts were Watkins in the 100 meter hurdles (15.58), Carolyn Cann in the 400 meter hurdles (1:06.52), and the 4 x 100 meter relay quartet of Winik, Watkins, Merritt, and Marla Rice (50.14). [COMPLETE RESULTS]
