RIO GRANDE, Ohio - The Yellow Jackets recovered from a big deficit to take the lead, only to have host Rio Grande bounce back at the end to hand Cedarville its first loss, 70-65, in a confrontation involving NAIA Division II Top 25 teams.
The No. 18 Red Storm, 8-1 overall, scored the game's final seven points to win for the fifth straight time. No. 4 Cedarville, also 8-1, appeared to be on its way to remaining unbeaten despite falling into a 40-26 deficit with 16:30 left.
The Yellow Jackets tied the contest at 55-55 with 5:50 to go on a three-point play by Derrick Hannon. A Grant Walker three-pointer at the 4:15 mark gave them their first lead of the second half while another triple by Chris Beals provided Cedarville with its final advantage, 65-63, with 1:52 left. Two lay-ups and three free throws by Rio settled the outcome.
Ricardo Alliman finished with 15 points and nine rebounds. Walker scored all 13 of his points in the second period while Hannon totaled 11 points and six assists. The Red Storm won the battle of the boards, 34-27, including a whopping 14 offensive rebounds. The Jackets got back into the contest by shooting 56 percent from the field in the second half. [STATS]
