Hall of Fame inducts three newest members

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Cedarville University inducted its three newest members to the Athletic Hall of Fame as former distance running standout Michelle (Burson) Tebbe, men's soccer player Paul Norman, and meritorious service award recipient Dr. Clifford Johnson were honored.

Michelle (Burson) Tebbe
Tebbe produced multiple All-America honors in cross country and on the track during her career from 1993 through 1997. She was the 1994 NCCAA cross country champion and one week later became the Lady Jackets' first-ever NAIA All-American in the sport.

Tebbe was a four-time NCCAA All-American, a four-time All-Mid-Ohio Conference performer, and a two-time NAIA and NCCAA Scholar-Athlete. She was part of four MOC championship squads as well as the 1996 NCCAA title team.

On the track, Tebbe was an NAIA Indoor All-American in the 2-mile run in 1994 and the 5,000 meters in 1995. She still owns the school 2-mile record at 11:20.77.

Tebbe won back-to-back 10,000 meter titles at the 1995 and 1996 NCCAA Outdoor Championships. She was the Mid-Ohio Conference champion in the 3,000 meters in 1994 as well as the 10K in 1995. The Columbus, Ohio native claimed the 3K and 5K titles at the 1994 NAIA District 22 Championship. She was a two-time NAIA and NCCAA Scholar-Athlete in track & field and was part of four NCCAA championship teams.

Michelle and her husband, Daniel, have two young daughters. They serve as missionary teachers in Germany.

Paul Norman
Norman excelled on the soccer field from the 1985 season through 1988. He is the only player in school history to be named a two-time NAIA All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America when he earned the honor as a junior (second team) and a senior (third team).

Norman played in 80 matches during his career helping the Yellow Jackets to a 48-31-5 record. He ranks eighth all-time at Cedarville with 18 assists and coupled with his 20 goals scored he totaled 58 points.

Norman was a three-time NCCAA All-American picking up first team recognition as a senior after earning a spot on the second team as a sophomore and junior. Three times he was voted to the All-NAIA District 22 First Team, All-NCCAA District III First Team, and All-Mid-Ohio Conference First Team. The Millersville, Md. product was chosen on three occasions as All-Ohio by the Ohio Soccer Coaches Association. He was a first team choice in 1987 and 1988, and was voted to the second team in 1986.

Cedarville won at least 11 matches each season during Norman's career claiming two NCCAA District III banners and one Mid-Ohio Conference title. He was part of two NCCAA national tournament squads with the 1985 team finishing as the runner-up. The Jackets qualified for the NAIA District 22 playoffs each year as well.

Paul and his wife, Laura, have three daughters and reside in Carmel, Ind.

Clifford Johnson
Dr. Clifford Johnson received the Nedra Callan Meritorious Service Award. He was recognized for his administrative support of Yellow Jacket athletics, especially in the formative years of the women's athletic program, as the Academic Dean and Academic Vice President at Cedarville College.

Johnson came to the institution in 1962 as Registrar and Director of Admissions. He was promoted to Academic Dean in 1964, with the title later changed to Academic Vice President, and served as the administrator to which athletics directly reported until 1987. During that timespan, the Lady Jacket athletics program grew from volleyball and basketball to also include cross country, softball, tennis, and track & field.

Johnson went on to serve as the Assistant to the President. He was named the 1998 Cedarville University Honorary Alumnus of the Year and fully retired from the institution in 2003.

A native of Washington state, Cliff was married to his first wife Eunice, who was herself a faithful Yellow Jacket fan, from 1947 until she passed away in 1993. He later remarried and his wife, Pamela Diehl Johnson, is the Dean of the School of Social Sciences and Human Performance.
